So, you’re thinking about finding a Life Coach and you’re nervous.
It is a BIG decision.
You don't want any coach. You want to find the right Life Coach for you.
People who are new to working with a Life Coach can worry whether:
Is this a waste of money?
Shouldn’t I be able to do this myself?
Will I feel ridiculed?
What if my family or friends think I can’t manage my own life?
What if the coach makes me feel stupid?
What if they don’t like me or judge me?
What if I don’t like them?
Take a deep breath. It’s normal to feel nervous and we’ve got you.
Ready?
You’re on the right path. Finding the right Life Coach IS one of the best things you can ever do for yourself.
The right coach will help you clarify where you are, where you want to be, uncover your inner map, sharpen your skills, build your confidence, and help you live it your best way. Whilst your investment will vary between coaches, the return is a happier and more successful life. Smart!
You may be the first person you know to hire a coach. Or perhaps your bestie raves about hers. Or maybe you heard the annoying person at work who gets the accolades has one. And you would like one BUT you’re worried what friends and family will think...
Finding the right Life Coach means you’re taking your life seriously. You’re aligning yourself with the greats. That means a happier, healthier, more successful future is already under construction. Let them question. Or just don’t tell them at all. This is your life and you can live it your way.
Finding the right coach doesn’t mean there’s something ‘wrong’ with you or that you have a ‘problem’.
It means you recognize there’s something inside whispering (or screaming) I need more. That could be a dream, finding your passion, achieving a goal, making change, or experiencing greater levels of connection, happiness, success, and fulfilment.
Leave the limited thinking and judgement to Uncle Bob (and the friend of a friend you don’t like). Coaching is all about you. It’s all about you making your life more right.
Working with a coach does NOT mean you’re weak. Nor does it mean you’re too stupid to figure it out for yourself!
Great coaching is about strengthening you.
You can’t know everything. And if you could just get on with it, you would have done so by now.
Something is missing.
So, take the pressure off.
Take a deep breath and give yourself the help and opportunity to make life better.
It’s normal for those seeking a coach for the first time to wonder whether they will like the coach or if the coach will like them.
The best coaches work to get behind you quickly. You’ll feel it when they do. It feels good and it feels right.
Coaches are people and people have different styles. My style is warm. And direct. You're here to get results. Sometimes what we face is hard, so I like to lighten it up where we can and as we go.
Others can have a much drier, more business style.
Include the style of the coach in your decision about who feels right for you.
Take what you have written down.
Know wherever you are, whatever’s going on inside or around you, it’s impacting you, and therefore your life.
Whilst some Life Coaches help you in life, other coaches specialise in areas such as business and even specialised areas such as weight loss or divorce.
If you need specific help in one area, consider hiring a coach in that area.
As the field of coaching is vast, tell any coach what you want help with and ask them how they can help you. Some will help you achieve a specific goal. Some can help you with all. But also consider what makes them different.
I work with spiritually minded people connect to who they are and align their life to what matters most to them. This includes ensuring they, their relationships and their business is healthy. This is very different from a coach who specialises in business health checks.
Remember- be unapologetic and unashamed. This is your life. And ALL great coaches will help you to make positive change.
Not all coaches and coaching methodologies are created equal and, unless you are trained as a coach, you probably don’t know this.
I focus on you.
We meet you as you are and work with you at your pace, suggesting a minimum of 4 sessions. It’s tailored only to you.
Others work differently. For example, if you want results in a specific area in 8 or 12 weeks, consider a finding a coach who offers packages and specific models.
Many of these types of packages are group programs.
One benefit could be that you engage in community.
The downside is that any program and model is designed to focus on all of you.
Think about what brings you to a coach and decide which approach is best for you.
There are no rights and wrongs.
You can always try one approach and then the other.
Some of our clients find us after a revelation they had on a one size fits all program, whilst other’s leave us to join a group dedicated to a specific endeavour, such as writing a book.
Coaching is all about YOU. Make sure that whatever type of coaching you opt for, you feel seen, felt, and heard. When it comes to coaching, it’s all about YOU!
Would you prefer to work with someone online or in person?
Some coaches only work online, finding they get better results that way.
The benefits of working with a Life Coach online is that the whole world of coaching is open to you.
You also get the benefit of no commute as well as being able to speak with your Life Coach from home, a room at work, in your car or on your lunch break.
But if you want to find someone locally, start by asking friends and family for a local referral or search ‘Life Coach near me’ online.
Remember, the right coach is worth the search. It’s also worth trial and error.
Friends and family are a great place to start.
At Heart2Shine, new clients regularly tell me that when they were talking with someone and they simply said, “Call Zoe” or “You need Zoe”.
Remember, some people fear Uncle Bob (and that friend of a friend who they don’t really like). That means don’t assume those you know don’t have a coach if they don’t talk about them! Ask anyway. Include colleagues- especially those you’ve seen suddenly start performing, lightening up or substantially happier.
Even if the person you ask doesn’t have a coach, they may know someone who has a great one.
And a personal recommendation is a great place to start!
If you can’t get a recommendation, look online.
Be mindful, however- not all great coaches are also great at SEO on google! Or enjoy advertising on social media. So, take your time when you search.
Once you find some websites, look for social media and read testimonials. Importantly, check out any videos. That will give a great feel for who a coach is.
If a potential Life Coach offers a Free Discovery Call, book in.
If they don’t, send them a message and ask them to call you.
Great coaches only work with those they can 100% get behind (and if they’re like us even love).
So have confidence!
If after a phone call, Free Discovery Call or first appointment, you don’t believe they’re right for you, don’t go further.
Trust yourself.
Don’t let life pass you by. Don’t live dim, disconnected, doubting yourself and staying small.
Acknowledge any nerves when you contact the coach you find. They’re only natural. You’re on a threshold. You’re in the company of greats.
You CAN find the right Life Coach for you.
Best Wishes,
Zoe x
